Laura World

Tomorrow is book club day at the library and as usual, there are several books on my nightstand that are still unfinished.  Among them are the Harper Trophy editions of the Little House on the Prairie books (or the yellow boxed set for all of you Laura fans out there...which I scored at the library book sale) and a new book The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie by Wendy McClure.  When I was a girl I read the Little House boxed set about 5 times and it's just as I remembered. I figured McClure's book would be a good companion to read while I was reading the Little House series again and it really has been.  There have been chapters where I have had to muffle my laughter in the pillow or else I'd wake up my family.    Wendy McClure, a children's book  publisher in Chicago, recounts her adventures visiting the places the Ingalls family lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas and South Dakota.  I had no idea that those town held Little House pageants until I started working at the library in Sac City and we got posters from De Smet, SD to post in the library window.  I recommend this book if you ever loved the Laura books and want to know more about present day "Laura World".  It is an entertaining read that may just take you back to your childhood.
